JUNKIES: Thom Loverro says RGIII criticizing Dan Snyder is 'disingenuous'

On Monday, when the Sports Junkies got a chance to discuss Dan Snyder officially announcing he had agreed to sell the Commanders to Josh Harris and company, Eric Bickel's response was that it was a "non-story" because we knew it was coming, "and I already celebrated."

Seems that Washington Times columnist Thom Loverro agreed, as he told the Junkies when he joined then Tuesday morning to discuss the sale.

"EB had basically said he had already celebrated, and I kind of felt the same way," Loverro said. "I wrote my column about Dan Snyder selling the team, and I don't know what to write now, because I already celebrated. It's great, and if it didn't happen, the emptions would be worse, but I've already celebrated that part of it."

That said, he understands why everyone else was so excited – but he knew it was a "done" deal months ago, before bidders even came to light.

"I understand the cynicism, but I thought this thing was gonna happen the minute Jim Irsay came out of that owners meeting in October and roasted Dan Snyder publicly," Loverro said. "People can laugh about crazy Jim Irsay, but he has some standing among that group. He's checked all the boxes a good owner has to have, and for him to make those statements and stand by them, to me that spoke to what the room was thinking, and that's when I thought Snyder was done."

There's one person, though, that he thinks shouldn't be on the Bye Dan Bandwagon: Robert Griffin III, whose criticism of Snyder after the sale was announced was something Loverro called 'disingenuous.'

"Yeah, it's funny, because right from the start I led the RGIII parade – I wrote a column before his first start saying people were in for a show," Loverro said. "When he'd do his press conferences outside, he'd wait for airplanes to go by so they wouldn't drown out the noise. That's how self-aware he was, I though, of what journalists need, byt maybe it was because he didn't want anyone to miss every word he had to say. It's so disingenuous for him to jump on the bandwagon of criticizing Snyder, who gave Robert his yacht to use for his honeymoon – but outside of Washington, I don't think most people understand the RGIII story."
