Furman falters in fourth quarter during loss at Chattanooga

Furman went toe-to-toe with Chattanooga for three quarters, but were held scoreless in the final frame of their 45-28 loss. Furman took an early lead after a 7 play, 91 yard scoring drive. The drive was capped by a 4 yard TD run by Ben Croasdale.

The Paladins held a 7-0 lead after the 1st quarter. Chattanooga answered in the 2nd quarter with a TD pass from QB Battle Albertson to tie it the game at 7. Furman then got a 3 yard TD run from CJ Nettles to retake the lead at 14-7.

The Mocs got a big play in the passing game as Albertson found Josh Williams for a 66 yard scoring strike to make it 14 all. Furman got a 76 yard return on the ensuing kickoff. That setup a 9 yard Trey Hedden TD pass to make it 21-14, Furman.

The Mocs answered with a 47 yard TD pass from Albertson to tie the game again at 21. The Paladins had a field goal blocked at the end of the 1st half and the game was tied 21-21 at the break.

Chattanooga took their 1st lead when DT Ky Tayo intercepted a Trey Hedden pass and returned it for a pick 6 to make it 28-21. The Mocs added a FG to make it 31-21. Furman responded with a 43 yard TD pass from Hedden to Evan James to make it 31-28 after three quarters.

In the 4th the Furman offense sputtered, as they had two turnovers and a punt on their final three possessions. Chattanooga capitalized with two touchdowns in the final 7:30 of the game to take the win 45-28.

The Paladins were minus three in turnover margin. With the loss, Furman is now 5-5 overall and 3-4 in SoCon play. The Paladins are back in action Saturday, hosting VMI for a 1PM kickoff. Furman football plays all season long on The Fan Upstate.
