Furman runs into "buzzsaw" in Raleigh

Historically, Furman has faired pretty well against N.C. State. However, history did not repeat itself this past Saturday night. The Paladins fell 45-7 on the road to their Power 5 opponent.

N.C. State would strike first on a Zonovan Knight TD run after they marched the field early in the 1st quarter. The Wolfpack added a FG to lead 10-0 after one. In the 2nd quarter, "the wheels came off" for the Furman defense. NC State QB Devin Leary found his rhythm, throwing for 3 TD's and running for one all in the second frame. N.C. State would take a commanding 38-0 lead into the half.


The Wolfpack would score early in the 3rd quarter on a TD run from Ricky Person Jr. to lead 45-0. Furman would get on the board when QB Hamp Sisson found TE Ryan Miller for an 18 yard TD strike.

N.C. State would roll up over 500 yards of total offense and hold Furman to under 200. The Wolfpack had the ground game advantage 218-92 and outgained Furman threw the air 287-104.

Furman QB Hamp Sisson was under consistent pressure, he finished 8 of 19 for 86 yards with one TD and a pick. NC State QB Devin Leary went 23 of 29 for 259 with 3 passing TD's and a rushing score. Wolfpack RB Zonovan Knight 104 rushing yards and a TD on 11 carries. N.C. State had 9 different players with at least one reception.

N.C. State moves to 2-1 with the win, they host Clemson Saturday for a 3:30 kickoff. Furman falls to 2-1 with the loss, they open Socon play hosting Mercer for a 2 PM kick on Saturday. You can hear every game of the 2021 Paladin Football season on ESPN Upstate.
