One of South Carolina's most prominent High School Football programs has a new leader. Gaffney High School has named Donnie Littlejohn as their new Head Coach.
He steps in for Dan Jones who retired after the 2024 season, as the program's all time wins leader. Littlejohn was introduced as Head Coach at a press conference, Wednesday morning.
Littlejohn said "This is not a typical 9-5 job. To this amazing County that I get to call home, I hope that you will continue to support the players and their efforts to perform on Friday night. I promise to always do what I believe is right. I also promise to always place there guys and the program in the best position to be successful."
Littlejohn has served as the Offensive Coordinator at Gaffney under Dan Jones for more than a decade. He's been involved in the program in various roles for over 20 years. He was the OC for the Indians when they won their latest State Title in 2021.
Prior to his coaching days Littlejohn was a standout player at Furman University. He anchored the Paladins Offensive line and won the Jacobs Trophy in 2001 which is given to the best blocker in the SoCon. He was named an All-American by various publications.
Littlejohn was chosen over several established Head Coaches from some of the top programs in both SC and North Carolina, who applied for the job. This is his 1st Head Coaching job.
The Gaffney program won 9 or more games in 7 of the last 8 seasons under Dan Jones. 2020 was the only exception and the team only played 7 games that year, as Covid-19 shortened the season.
Littlejohn now becomes the 1st Black Head Coach in Gaffney Football history.
