PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He’s not the biggest player in stature nor fan attention, but Steelers safety Mike Hilton makes plays. Wednesday, he was honored for his work against Indianapolis, named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career.
Hilton recovered a fumble and also intercepted Philip Rivers in the game that clinched the AFC North for the Steelers.
Down 7-0, Hilton picked up TJ Watt’s strip sack and returned it to the Colts three-yard line where James Conner would tie the game with a one-yard run.
Hilton finished with four tackles, defended two passes and helped seal the game with a fourth quarter interception of Rivers after the Steelers had taken their first lead.
Watt called Hilton ‘a special cat’ after the game, adding Hilton is very gritty and they are lucky to have him.
The 26-year-old is second on the team in interceptions with three and has seven passes defended despite missing four games this year.
Hilton signed a 3.25 million dollar contract as a restricted free agent to remain after last year following 11 passes defended and six tackles for loss.
He was undrafted out of Mississippi in 2016 and is an unrestricted free agent after this season.
