When Stephon Gilmore went down with a non-contact leg injury late in the first half Sunday against the Dolphins it didn't look good.
The Patriots announced him as doubtful with a knee injury and later downgraded him to out, but as the game came to a close NFL Media's Ian Rapoport passed along a positive update.
The report said, "Gilmore actually did not suffer a knee injury and the leg injury may not be as serious as it may have looked. He’ll have tests tomorrow." Rapoport later added: "Given that the #Patriots only have two games left and are eliminated from the playoffs, Gilmore may not return this season. But tests will show more."
Obviously, this is good news considering how bad it looked when he needed the help of two trainers to make it to the locker room.
It seems worth noting Gilmore missed three games earlier in the year due to a knee injury.
Bill Belichick did not have any update when he spoke after the game.
The Patriots, who were eliminated from the playoffs with the loss, will close the year with home games against the Bills and Jets.
