Have you ever had one of those days?
"Those" days can be both positive and negative but for me on Sunday, it was all positive. As a member of the media, I have had the opportunity over the last few years to travel and cover some of the best sporting events the south-east has to offer; whether it be SEC Championships or College Baseball Super Regionals, I have been very blessed to cover some great events. However, it is not everyday that you get a moment like this.
Sunday's race at Bristol started just minutes apart from the final tee time at Augusta National that showcased Rory Mcllroy and Bryson DeChambeau. During the post-race press conference roughly three and a half hours later, I noticed race winner Kyle Larson looking my way. Larson had his eyes on hole 18. Immediately following the presser, Kyle Larson made a beeline to me, well, to my laptop to watch the final hole at Augusta National. With a puzzled look on his face, Larson asked, "what happened to Bryson?"
I had to break the news to the race winner that Bryson DeChambeau had fallen to fifth place in the final round. While Larson and I were watching the final moments in Augusta, Peter Stratta of ABC45 (WXLV) captured a moment that I will never forget. It is not everyday that you get to watch the best golfers in the world with one of the best drivers in the world. I am blessed to be able to attend and cover sporting events and make a living doing so.
On Sunday, I had one of those days.
