The Eagles could be losing perhaps the best coach on their entire staff.
Offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland could be heading back to Alabama, according The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman. Stoutland would be replacing Kyle Flood, who is leaving Alabama for Texas. Stoutland previously worked for Alabam from 2011 to 2012 before he left to come to the Eagles as part of Chip Kelly’s staff.
There is no getting around the fact that the loss of Stoutland would be a huge one.
Stoutland has done a phenomenal job with the Eagles, consistently having his offensive line ranked among the best in the league despite numerous injuries. He has done an excellent job coaching up young players like Isaac Seumalo and Jordan Mailata, both of which could be starters in 2021. Stoutland is not just a great coach but is also a very popular one, and if he does leave, it will mark a huge change in the offensive line room.
Although it isn’t surprising Stoutland looks to be leaving, he did stay through the change from Kelly to Doug Pederson, so the idea of him staying wasn’t that crazy.
Now, the Eagles will need a new offensive line coach — and finding one as good as Stoutland is going to be very tough to do.
