Three listening area teams to play in State Finals

Three basketball teams from the listening area will vie for South Carolina's richest prize in their respective classes. The State Finals will be held this Thursday March 3rd through Saturday March 5th at the USC-Aiken Convocation Center.

Christ Church downed traditional rival Landrum in the 2A Girls Upper State Title Game on Monday, 54-39. The Lady Cavs outscored Landrum 18-8 in the 2nd quarter to build a 13 point halftime advantage. Landrum fought and clawed in the 2nd half but couldn't bounce back from the 1st half deficit. UNC-Wilmington signee McCall King had a game high 22 to lead the way for Christ Church. The Lady Cavs will take on Andrew Jackson in the 2A State Finals Saturday at Noon. Christ Church is looking for their 4th State Championship in the last 8 seasons and their 6th since 2009.


The Westside Lady Rams downed Catawba Ridge in the 4A Girls Upper State Title Game Tuesday night. Westside's defense carried them to a 44-36 win, despite scoring just 2 points in the 2nd quarter. Sophomore Post Olivia Randolph was key in the defensive effort for Westside grabbing 17 rebounds and blocking 7 shots. The defending State Champs have now won 37 straight games dating back to last season and are a perfect 27-0 this season. They'll look for back-to-back State Titles, as they take on North Augusta Saturday night at 6 PM.

The Blue Ridge Boys program has had a historically good run this season. The Fighting Tigers won Monday night in their 1st ever appearance in the Upper State Title. They now will play in the State Finals for the 1st time in program history. Senior Justin Bailey has been their driving force, Coach Richie Stephens said of Bailey "He's the best player to ever walk the halls at Blue Ridge". The Senior Guard has signed with USC-Upstate and has had an amazing postseason. Bailey has 35 or more in every postseason game including 38 in their Upper State Title win over perennial power Keenan. Boue Ridge takes on Orangeburg-Wilkinson in the 3A Boys State Finals Friday night at 7:30.

All of the finals will be held at the USC-Aiken Convocation Center.
