White Sox, Nike release City Connect uniforms

The uniforms were designed as a tribute to Chicago's South Side community.

(670 The Score) The White Sox and Nike on Friday unveiled the team's City Connect uniforms, which were designed as a "tribute to the hardworking and resilient mentality of Chicago's Southside community," the team said in a release.

The dark grey uniforms feature gothic script and white pinstripes. The White Sox will debut them on June 5, when they host the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field.

"Every aspect of this collaboration is meant to connect with people who understand what the 'Southside' represents," White Sox chief revenue and marketing officer Brooks Boyer said in a statement. "It's not just about where our ballpark is located or where people from the city or suburbs live. It's a mentality and a culture shared by many who love the White Sox.

"The Nike MLB City Connect Series created a rare opportunity to transform a concept for all people who understand what it means to represent the 'Southside' into an on-field look and style. We are grateful to Nike who helped us create a uniform that embodies the team's historic legacy and connections to our fans and the mentality."

Nike partnered with seven MLB teams -- including the Cubs -- to create unique uniforms designed to celebrate "the bond between team and its city," Nike said.

The Red Sox and Marlins have already worn their City Connect uniforms. The Dodgers, Giants and Diamondbacks will also participate in this.
