Another day, another signing by the Washington Commanders as new general manager Adam Peters looks to overhaul the roster with the addition of cornerback Michael Davis on a one-year deal, the team announced.
Davis, signed from the Los Angeles Chargers where he had played all seven years of his NFL career, played in 17 games a year ago with one interception, 10 passes defended, 62 tackles (52 solo) with three tackles for loss. He has made 74 starts (107 games) with eight career picks. The terms of the contract were not immediately released.
The signing makes sense considering new Washington defensive backs coach Tommy Donatell had spent time with Davis in Los Angeles, Kevin Sheehan noted in giving his analysis.
With Kendall Fuller's exit in free agency, the move gives Washington some flexibility and Davis is a potential starter or rotation option along with Benjamin St-Juste and last year's first-round draft pick Emmanuel Forbes.
One concern for the Commanders, Davis allowed 61-788-9 on 93 targets last season, according to Pro Football Focus.
