A Greenwood man is set to spend well over a decade behind bars on drug charges. The 8th Circuit Solicitors Office says 46 year old, Willie Joe Carter Jr pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of distribution and intent to distribute fentanyl.
The charges come after two separate incidents. In 2021, Carter was a passenger in a traffic stop and over 8 grams of fentanyl was found in the vehicle. Court records say that Carter also sold fentanyl to an informant, last year.
Carter has a history of prior drug convictions that date back over 20 years. He has been sentenced to 15 years in the state prison system and will have to serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for early release.
