The castle doctrine is standing strong to protect homeowners after a deadly shooting incident in the Upstate. No charges are expected to be filed after a teenager was shot and killed while breaking into a Spartanburg County home, over the weekend.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says, 19 year old Xavier Felix Rivera-Goucher was shot and killed while breaking into a home. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says while the shooting remains under investigation they don't expect any charges to be filed.
Under the state's castle doctrine, a homeowner can defend their home if someone breaks in and poses a safety risk.
While Goucher's death has been ruled a homicide, Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger says, his job is to determine the manner of death not whether charges should be filed.
