Several officers from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department have either resigned or been terminated after racist group text messages between them surfaced. Earlier this month, the department made the decision to fire 6 officers involved. Four of them have since resigned.
A 7th officer who was involved, Seth Elliott had already resigned after being arrested for misusing the Flock camera system. The other 6 officers have now been identified as Mateo Juarez, Joseph Kelly, Alexander Larsen, Tredan Maronic, Matthew Osborn and Jeremiah Todman.
Police Chief Estrella Patterson said the group texts included racial slurs and running bets about who could pull over the most black people.
Patterson said " We will be pursuing, as an organization, the revocation of their North Carolina law enforcement certificates so that they cannot be an officer anywhere in our state. And I hope that they will not be an officer anywhere in this country,”
