(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Investment scams are costing people billions of dollars, and impersonating celebrities is a new twist.

Scammers are impersonating high level, high net value names, such as Elon Musk and Warren Buffet to trick you into investing.

It begins with a seemingly sincere message received via social media, direct messaging, text, or email.

The impersonator says they are someone wealthy and famous who has noticed and is impressed by your work and asks you to respond.

Warren Buffett even alerted the public that fraudsters are impersonating him to offer fake investment advice and deals.

Delete these messages without responding. They are attempts to steal your information and money. If you’ve already responded, stop all communication.
