Doug Emhoff is coming to his wife’s defense after Georgia Senator David Perdue mispronounced Kamala Harris’ name several times during a republican campaign rally. Harris, a senator from California, is the first black woman and Asian American on the presidential ticket of a major party.
Perdue has served with Harris in the U.S. Senate since 2017.
Republican Perdue was at a rally in Macon, Georgia Friday for President Donald Trump. During a speech to the crowd Perdue mispronounced Harris’ name more than twice, and then said “I don't know, whatever."
Emhoff tells V103’s Maria Boynton that as a husband he didn’t like it, and speaking as part of the campaign “this dude should learn to say ‘MVP Madam Vice President’. He might be able to pronounce that one a little easier.”
An attorney, Emhoff has taken a leave of absence to campaign for his wife and Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee for U.S. President.
Emhoff says he’s hearing from voters that they need “leadership, they need people who are competent and have a plan.” When it comes to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Emhoff says the Trump Administration, “has not had a plan. They are ignoring it, trying to wish it away. They’ve lied about it, they hid it and it’s not working for people.” He adds that Biden and Harris have a plan. ”People in Georgia and all across this country are suffering because of the devastating impact of the pandemic on the economy and small business.”
Emhoff campaigned in Fulton and Cobb counties Sunday.
