Auto NSider Review | 2022 Hyundai KONA N Line AWD

All the "GO" you expect…and more.

2022 Hyundai KONA N Line AWD

If you're a fan of performance, you've probably already noticed that Hyundai isn't taking a back seat to anyone these days.

But if you haven't noticed, here's the deal:   It's called "N Line".   And Hyundai is adding N Line versions to just about their entire lineup.

Our test KONA is the latest to join the family…a family that now includes their feisty little Veloster plus their Sonata, Elantra, and Tucson.

And unlike some manufactures who just slap some kind of performance badge onto an otherwise "regular" model, Hyundai's N Line = some serious "GO".

Here's how Hyundai packs their new KONA N Line with "Punch".   It starts with a 1.6 liter turbo four and a quick-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch auto with rev-matching and paddle shifters.

You'll also enjoy going around corners roughly 5% faster thanks to Hyundai's "Corner Carving Differential",   That's an electric limited-slip differential that allows your driven wheels to turn at different speeds.   Again, it'll give you a bit faster trip through the corners plus reduced wheel-slip and reduced understeer.

Want more?   OK.   Hyundai includes an electrically-controlled suspension, a music-to-an-enthusiast's-ears active sport exhaust, and 18" alloys with Goodyear performance rubber.

"Look-at-me pretend performance badging?   Hardly.

Serious performance goodies?   Absolutely.

Hyundai's KONA N Line comes will-equipped right out of the box, but just add a Tech Package and you'll pick up Harman Kardon premium audio, a sunroof, high-beam assist, and LED lighting.

Hyundai's KONA N Line is so new that they haven't settled on final pricing yet, but figure on Hyundai continuing their tradition of offering a bit more than some of their competitors…for a bit less.

So what was the "And More" that we mentioned back up there at the top?

Comfort and relative quiet…unexpected but much appreciated "extras" in a performance vehicle.

All the "GO" you expect…and more.
