On Thursday, the Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets for their third straight win, which also resulted in them sweeping the Mets to kick off a stretch of 13 straight division games. And while Atlanta remains five game under .500 and now 10 games back of the Mets, they head into the remainder of division games with some momentum.
On Friday, 92-9 The Game's Mike Bell and Chris Thomas shared thoughts on why they believe the Braves may have given themselves a much needed boost to turn their season around and spoke with Braves President, Baseball Operations and General Manager, Alex Anthopoulos, who agreed with Bell and Thomas about Atlanta's momentum, however expressed why he believes the team still has a ways to go to find themselves back in the division race.
"We still have a massive hole," Anthopoulos said as he explained that while they enjoy the results of the Braves series with the Mets, the organization understands the importance of not being too excited about sweeping their division rival.
"I rather win than lose of course, but we're still five (games) under five hundred so we're not even looking at the standings," Anthopoulos continued, explaining his belief that even with the Braves winning, however not playing well overall, it becomes difficult to "feel good" about small victories due to having to overcome struggles.
