To say the Braves' trip to the Steel City was mired in turmoil would be putting it lightly. The series started with an 11-5 blowout loss for the Braves. That was followed up with 4-1 losing performance in a game that had multiple rain delays. However, it all came to a head on Sunday. the Braves got their lone win of the series and avoided the sweep in an 8-1 victory. A victory that feels bitter sweet after reigning NL MVP, Ronald Acuña Jr., left the bout in the first inning with what looked like a catastrophic left knee injury.
Caleb Johnson shared his thoughts on the Acuña injury on "The Dopey Millennial Show." The overwhelming emotion being "its just not fair."
While attempting to steal third base, Acuña planted his left leg fell to the ground before being tagged out. He was able to walk off the field, with assistance, before being declared out for the game with "knee soreness."
Ronald Acuña Jr., who was immediately designated to the 10-Day injured list, spoke with the media after the victory and provided a few words of hope. When asked how scared he was, Acuña stated (interpreted by Braves' Coach Eddie Perez), "I got scared because I felt the pain in the beginning, but it's been going away for a while."
The Braves lead-off hitter compared the injury to one that he sustained in Boston back in 2018, where he sustained an ACL sprain that sidelined him for a month.
Atlanta will now look to continue their championship campaign without both Spencer Strider, who is out for the season with an elbow injury, and now Ronald Acuña Jr., for the foreseeable future.
