Braves clinch NL East, will host winner of Phillies/Cardinals series in NLDS

Atlanta wins NL East for fifth straight year after falling 10.5 games behind Mets in early June

The Atlanta Braves (101-60) are once again NL East Division Champions after clinching the title with a 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins Tuesday night at loanDepot Park.

Braves starter Jake Odorizzi pitched five innings and only gave up one run to help the Braves get back in the win column after losing the first game of the final series of the regular season Monday night.

The Braves will now have close to a week of rest once the regular season ends to set their rotation and get any needed players some rest and treatment before beginning post-season play.

The Braves arrived in South Florida on Monday, only needing one win or a Mets loss to clinch the NL East for the fifth consecutive season, and when Gabe Burns joined the Jon Chuckey show to discuss the Braves, Gabe was very insistent that the team really needed to get the victory on Tuesday and not create a stressful atmosphere going into the regular season finale Wednesday evening.

“They need to get this done tonight so that tomorrow is not stressful for everybody,” emphasized Burns when speaking with Chuckery.

“You can kind of give them a pass for yesterday, (Monday’s 4-0 loss), coming off travel and a big emotional weekend” said Burns when rationalizing that the Braves were shutout by the Marlins to begin the series.

Problem solved as the Braves took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. After the Marlins tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, the Braves responded in the top of the fifth retaking the lead, 2-1.

The bullpen and closer Kenley Jansen handled the rest of the work as Jansen recorded his NL leading 41st save of the season.

The Braves will now wait for the winner of the Phillies/Cardinals Wild Card series to come to Truist Park for the NLDS
