With Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach set to start the season on the 60-day injured list and “miss significant time”, according to Braves Manager Walt Weiss, due to inflammation in his pitching elbow the Braves now have a hole in their starting rotation that needs to be filled, and earlier today our very own Braves insider and reporter Grant McAuley joined The Morning Shift and explained why he thinks Chris Bassitt is the “ideal answer” to Atlanta’s starting pitching rotation questions.
“All signs to me point to Chriss Bassitt as being the ideal candidate. He’s a guy that can make 30 starts every year, throw you 160 to 180 innings, he has been part of some winning clubs, he was on the Blue Jays last year, and even when they got into the postseason and didn’t even need him to start he came in and threw some really valuable innings for you, so that to me is probably the ideal answer for the rotation.” Grant said
The Braves will likely allow some of their young arms that have been spending time in the minor leagues to have an opportunity to earn a spot in the starting pitching rotation out of spring training, but when it comes down to it a team like the Braves who are trying to compete for World Series titles need starters who will consistently have you in position to win games, and Chriss Bassitt is certainly one of those guys.
