On Monday, the Falcons resigned quarterback, Matt Ryan, to a one-day contract allowing the 14 year veteran to announce his retirement as an Atlanta Falcon and for many, one of the best players if not the best, to wear an Atlanta Falcons’ uniform. On Tuesday, Steak Shapiro and Sandra Golden reacted to the news of the former Falcons’ signal caller’s retirement and shared their thoughts on where Ryan’s place in Falcons and NFL history should stand.

“There’s no debating, Matt Ryan basically solidified that you never think of anyone else if there’s a quarterback,” Shapiro said explaining that the drafting of Ryan in 2008 by the Falcons and his almost instant positive impact under center put the team in a position which teams strive for when looking for their franchise quarterback. “Without out a quarterback, you have nothing,” Shapiro added. As the conversation continued, Shapiro and Golden reacted to comments by Ryan during his press conference on Monday, and in particularly noted his comments on the “ups and downs” and “frustrations”, which both Shapiro and Golden believed resulted in Ryan never being fully accepted by many fans.

“He talks about it wasn’t always smooth sailing, I don’t know but it should have been. He’s your best player ever,” Shapiro said adding that he believes that with Ryan under center, the Falcons “never had to worry about that position” however he believes that fans did not “treat him with the reverence that he deserved”. Shapiro and Golden would then go to the phone lines to allow listeners to call in and share their thoughts and react.
