The Atlanta Falcons’ coaching staff is coming together. It was announced over the last several days that Zac Robinson will become the offensive coordinator and former Washington Head Coach Jimmy Lake will serve as the defensive coordinator. Both have ties to Raheem Morris through working in Los Angeles with the Rams over the last several years. The staff, while lacking a ton of experience, seems to be poised to come into their own in Atlanta.
Much has been made about the power structure in Atlanta. Rich McKay, now reassigned to oversee Atlanta United, was seen as a potential significant talking point in hiring a new staff for the Falcons. Now the team will have a clear delineation of power with Morris and GM Terry Fontenot directly reporting to owner Arthur Blank. A simpler path and allowance for a flow of information throughout the entire organization should allow these new coaches to blossom.
Only time will tell if these new hires and the new power structure will work for the Falcons. But the need for change was evident after one 7-10 season after another. The coaching staff will now be empowered to become the best version of themselves.
