The news broke yesterday of the Baltimore Ravens applying the nonexclusive tag yesterday to Lamar Jackson, meaning any team would have to give up two first round picks to acquire the QB, and also pay north of 200 million dollars in guaranteed money in a new contract.
So it seemed like, for a brief moment, the Falcons would be involved in the pursuit of the 26 year old MVP. That was shot down very fast, however.
What it means for the Falcons is that one of the league's most exciting players would not be joining this franchise, not next season , or any season after that.
The key word there in describing Lamar Jackson is "exciting". He's a threat to score with his arm or legs anywhere on a football field. He's still very young. He's got a 45-16 record as a starter. there are injury concerns, as he's missed chunks of the last two season, including a playoff loss this past season.
On this morning's Steakhouse, Drew Butler asked the question "when was the last time you as a Falcons fan were excited about going to a home game that wasn't an opener?" It seems that Lamar could give this organization a game changer at the most important position in the league. Yes, the price would be steep with cap space, and draft capital. But would the thought of having the league's most exciting player behind center each Sunday at Mercedes Benz Stadium be a bad thing? You can hear Steak and Drew discuss this below.
