With Arthur Smith now out as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, one burning question every Falcons fan wants to know is how will the coaching change ultimately affect the roster. Former Falcons quarterback & Atlanta Falcons Radio Network Analyst, Dave Archer joined The Morning Shift and gave his thoughts on what potential roster turnover could transpire once a new head coach is in place.

“Well, I’d think it would be pretty easy Mike to find a coach that would fit in with some of the veterans that are on this team," Archer said. "The younger players I think will kind of go and migrate the direction of whatever the coach wants to go. I think it’s a multi-faceted young group I think that their ability to adapt to different schemes in whatever that are out there I think that the young kids could do that.”

Archer finished his thought: “The older players to me from a leadership standpoint were in lockstep with the head coach and with the staff, so I think that would be a group that would be easy to blend with as well.”

Obviously there’s no way an entire roster can be turned over in a year, but while Arthur Blank and Rich McKay are conducting their search for the next head coach, there’s a good chance that they will take into consideration and ask the candidates how they plan to work with, win with, and continue to build with some or most of the players that are already on the roster.

The Falcons have a lot of young talented offensive players that are on rookie contracts, and some really talented defensive players that are under contract, so it’s probably safe to say Arthur Blank and Rich McKay will bring in somebody that will be able, willing, and confident in their ability to win with and build with a good amount of the Falcons current roster.
