No movement for Hawks on day one of free agency
As the NBA free agency period opened on Tuesday evening, and players began to find new homes, the Atlanta Hawks have been quite to this point, with no new additions since trading for Aaron Wiggins Devin Carter and drafting Kingston Flemings, Zuby Ejiofor and Henri Veesaar, moves which all occurred ahead of free agency.
“Hawks fans, are you cool with that,” 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes, asked as he and cohost Mike Bell discussed the Hawks not making headlines for roster moves within the first 24-hours of the free agency period. “I think we’re [Hawks] done. Now when I say that, I’m not talking about in season trades, I’m talking about how you build your team to start the season right now," Dukes said as he explained why he believes the Hawks are likely to be done with roster additions currently.
“I don’t feel like we’re going to do any other additional big moves,” Dukes said of the Hawks as he shared why he believes the team is content with their front court, despite some believing the team is still in need of size. “Everybody thinks that this was something that was a necessity. I don’t feel like Onsi [Saleh] felt that way. And when he came on, remember his comment to us. He felt like we were one of the better defensive teams during the regular season,” Dukes said of the Hawks president of basketball operations and general manager.
“I think he wanted to go get defense and all these guys we drafted play defense. There’s something to what he’s added, but I don't know if he felt the urgency to go and do what we wanted him to do in the offseason, and that was go get a big man,” Dukes said.Hawks relying on NBA Draft to add size to front court
