Directors, Actors, and Producers, Erika Nicole Malone and Denise Downes engaged Juandolyn in some Sister Talk about, Blazing a Trail for Women in Hollywood.
Malone shared that she began her career as a actor, writer, director in high school when she wrote her first play at 17 and graduated to musicals in college. She credits her mother with developing her talent and skills by encouraging her and exposing her to people of influence who helped her grow. Her mother also taught her to pivot around obstacles and open her own doors.
Downes shared how surprised she was when she was asked to direct the Mahalia Jackson story, She said her chemistry with Malone is what contributes to their success as partners in the arts. Her interest in the arts was also peaked as a child, which is when she decided that acting, directing, and producing would be her life's work. She encourages others to follow their dreams and also put in the work to make them come true. Her rule of thumb is: one no doesn't mean its over, it means two yeses are on the way.
