KENOSHA, Wisconsin (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Supporters and critics of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden were on the streets of Kenosha, Wisconsin Thursday as the former vice president met with the family of Jacob Blake.
Blake’s racially charged shooting by a city police officer nearly two weeks ago spurred days of protests and led to a visit from President Donald Trump this week.
Biden said he talked with Blake on the phone for about 15 minutes as he met with family members. He said the 29-year-old is out of ICU.
The Democrat also held a community meeting at a church, where he promised to empower a task force to study police reform if he wins the presidency.
Repbulican Trump's visit earlier this week emphasized law and order, in response to the unrest, arson and vandalism erupted. The president did not speak with Blake's family and focused his attention of police and business owners. A teen from Illinois is accused of shooting three people, killing two, during a confrontation.
On Thursday, Trump supporter Robert Dreyer questioned the motives of both major-party candidates, given everything else that is going on in the world.
"I think they're trying to make everybody happy," he told WBBM Newsradio's Jim Gudas.
