CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police have charged a 28-year-old man with two counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in connection to a shooting of two Chicago police officers.
On June 1, Chicago police officers tried to stop a car for a traffic violation in Englewood.
Chicago police alleged the driver of the car was 28-year-old Jabari Edwards.
Police said Edwards sped off, then slowed, and allowed the patrol car to pull alongside in the 1600 block of West 64th Street.
After allowing the patrol to pull up to his vehicle, police said Edwards then shot at the officers and hit one in the shoulder.
The officer's partner quickly rushed her to the hospital, where she improved from critical to stable condition.
On July 13, Edwards was arrested in Iowa by CPD officers and members of the U.S. Marshal Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Chicago police announced the charges on Saturday.
