EVANSTON, Ill. (WBBM Newsradio) – Evanston/Skokie School District 65 Superintendent Angel Turner is leaving the district after the school board approved a mutual separation agreement Monday.
Under the agreement, Turner's final day with the district will be June 30.
In a letter to the District 65 community, Board President Nichole Pinkard and Vice President Chris Van Nostrand thanked Turner for her five years of service, during which she served as director of literacy, assistant superintendent of schools and superintendent.
Turner became superintendent in March 2024 after serving as interim superintendent following the departure of former Superintendent Devon Horton.
School board leaders credited Turner with guiding the district through a difficult financial period, saying she helped identify a growing budget crisis and led efforts to reduce the district's long-standing structural deficit. They also praised her leadership in redesigning plans for the new Foster Elementary School after determining the original proposal was financially unsustainable, allowing the project to remain on schedule and within budget.
Turner also oversaw district initiatives involving special education, out-of-school programming and facilities, according to the board.
Her departure comes during a period of significant leadership turnover. She becomes the fourth cabinet-level administrator to leave District 65 this year, joining Assistant Superintendent Katie Speth, Chief Financial Officer Tamara Mitchell and Director of Schools Management Charmekia McCoy, who recently announced she will leave the district in August.
