Former ComEd Senior VP of Governmental Affairs expected to plead guilty in bribery case

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A lobbyist and former high-ranking ComEd executive is scheduled to plead guilty this week in a bribery case.

According to prosecutors, Fidel Marquez helped arrange payments to allies of House Speaker Michael Madigan to influence legislation in the General Assembly in Springfield.

Marquez, a former senior vice president of governmental affairs at ComEd, is at the moment the only person charged in what the utility has admitted in court was a years-long scheme to win Madigan’s support, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Marquez, who was charged three weeks ago in a one-count criminal information, is scheduled to enter a guilty plea on Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Mary Rowland.

There is a lot of smoke around Madigan, who has not been charged with a crime and denies all allegations.
