CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - City Council members are meeting today to discuss a possible solution to housing migrants.
For a while now, migrants have been sleeping on floors at Chicago Police stations across the city.
Mayor Brandon Johnson's office brought up the idea of moving migrants to huge tents that could fit hundreds of people. The tents are supposed to be outfitted for the cold.
40th Ward alderman Andre Vasquez told CBS-2 he has some questions about the tents.
"I have real concerns about it because we're talking the winter here in Chicago," Vasquez said.
He said he also wants to know where the tents would be and how much they'd cost.
22nd Ward Alderman Michael Rodriguez said the tents may be worth the investment, given the current housing situation.
"You've got 3-year-old children who are sleeping on police floors. That's an untenable situation," Rodriguez said.
The mayor is expected to hold a meeting with the aldermen to talk about the plan.
