CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Local, state and federal law enforcement officials were joined by prosecutors on Wednesday to announce a new Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC), located inside the Chicago headquarters of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).
There are 13 agencies working together under one roof with the goal of reducing gun violence.
"What makes this partnership you see today so significant is that, for the first time, we are working together, combining investigative resources with our intelligence capabilities to solve firearms crime and hold those accountable who are wreaking havoc in our communities," said Christopher Amon, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF's Chicago Field Office.
ATF Director Steven Dettelbach said the new center will allow them to "squeeze every last piece of evidence and information out of a gun used at a crime."
He added that the CGIC brings talent, technology and data together in one initiative.
Said Deputy U.S. Attorney General Lisa Monaco: "We are all in on reversing the rise in violent crime,"
