Gomes, 34, hit .252 with 14 homers, 52 RBIs and a .723 OPS in 103 games split between the Nationals and Athletics in 2021. He’s also considered a solid defender. For now, Gomes is set to slot in as the Cubs’ backup catcher behind Willson Contreras.
Gomes has hit .247 with a .720 OPS in his 10-year MLB career. He was an All-Star in 2018.
