Thank you Patrick Mahomes and Alex Ovechkin.
The two superstars will be in Buffalo this weekend as their respective teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Capitals are due to play the Buffalo Bills (Sunday) and Buffalo Sabres (Saturday).
And, their presence is driving demand for hotel rooms in downtown Buffalo, with some high end hotels charging $800 a night for some of their upper end rooms and suites.
At $800 per night, the rate is about 455% more than the current daily hotel room rate of $144 per night.
And, the rooms are being booked.
Patrick Kaler, Visit Buffalo CEO, says it is not unusual to see heavily inflated room rates, especially in downtown with its limited supply of rooms and, especially when high profile sporting events take place.
"It seems like every time the Chiefs come, prices go up," Kaler said.
Kaler said this weekend is a perfect storm with both the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs and the chance that Ovechkin might score his 900th goal on Saturday night.
"Two high profile events," Kaler said. "This weekend is kind of a one-off in that regard."
Kaler noted while local residents may have a case of stick shock given the inflated hotel room rates this weekend, for out-of-town visitors the price might not seem that high.
"If you are coming from a larger city, you might be used to those prices," Kaler said.
And, if the Bills end up hosting the AFC Championship game in January, that $800 per night room rate may seem like a bargain.
