You could say Mother Nature is playing a trick on the Buffalo-Niagara weather with Halloween approaching, as windy and wet conditions overspread the region.

A strengthening area of low pressure will bring a soaking rain and gusty winds through Friday night, National Weather Service forecasters say.
And, the unsettled weather will linger into at least the first half of the weekend.

"Those days of those blue skies are over with here," warns NWS meteorologist Dave Thomas.

Once the rain overspreads the region Thursday, it's here to stay for a couple days, Thomas says. "For today, we're looking at a half to one inch of rain across all of Western New York," Thomas says. The rain will be widespread, however, some limited breaks are possible during the afternoon hours, before filling back in through the daytime Friday.

The 'trick or treat' forecast is a bit dicey for Friday evening.

"That rain will still be around all across Buffalo," Thomas tells WBEN. Winds will be a factor for Halloween too.

A Wind Advisory has been posted for the region from midday Friday until early Saturday morning, with northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts to 50 mph forecast.

Overall rainfall Friday will range from a quarter to half inch for much of WNY, and lake effect rain showers will setup and linger into Sunday, forecasters say.
