Pendleton, N.Y. (WBEN) - A 16-year-old boy was taken to ECMC Thursday afternoon with non-life threatening injuries after being struck by an ambulance on Mapleton Road in the Town of Pendleton.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, the ambulance was on its way to a call around 3:09 p.m. when it struck a Hyundai that failed to yield for the emergency vehicle at the intersection of Townline and Mapleton Roads.

The collision carried both vehicles across the intersection, causing the ambulance to strike the teen who had been walking on the shoulder of Mapleton Road.

Both vehicles wound up in a ditch. The 42-year-old driver of the Hyundai was taken to ECMC by Mercy Flight with life threatening injuries. The ambulance crew, a 35-year-old woman and 27-year-old man, were evaluated at the scene and released.

An investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office is underway.
