Hamburg, N.Y. (WBEN) - An Angola man waived his felony hearing on Thursday on charges he faces for causing a crash this past Saturday that killed an 8-year-old boy.
Markus Genovese had his attorney pleaded not guilty on his behalf on Thursday in the Town of Hamburg court. He is being held without bail.
The 52-year-old is accused of driving his vehicle into another car driven by 35-year-old Heather Van Elk on Route 5 and North Creek on Saturday night. Prosecutors say Genovese fled the scene, but was later apprehended by the Town of Hamburg Police while attempting to hide in a nearby backyard.
The crash ended up killing 8-year-old Thomas Ross, while injuring his 4-year-old brother.
Genovese will appear before a grand jury in approximately 45 days.
