Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - If the 2024 Presidential Election is another "skin of your teeth" election, the stage is set for all kinds of challenges and appeals, as legal teams are already in place for both the Kamala Harris and Donald Trump campaigns.
Republican strategist Carl Calabrese says it's not good for democracy if that happens.
"It makes for a very poor election process. One that is almost designed to give people doubts about the integrity of the election system," said Calabrese with WBEN on Monday.
"Pennsylvania has already said it's going to take at least 4 days to count the ballots. That's ridiculous. A large state like Florida can get it done on election day. It can be done. It's a matter of will. Apparently, many states don't have the will to revise their election process to be able to count results on election day. This is not good for a democratic republic."
Calabrese said the aftermath of this election may include both sides filing challenges and appeals reminiscent of the year 2000, which went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
In another observation from Calabrese, he noted he has never seen an election season where the numbers change so little.
"Usually one candidate starts to move a few points ahead in October. This race has moved, but only in tenths of points," Calabrese said.
Calabrese has analyzed local and national elections for years and said it's been amazing to see so many polls over the last few months pretty much locked-in on the presidential race, calling it a toss-up. It's something, he said, he's never seen before.
