Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - "The eclipse is over, but you can give your eclipse glasses a second chance to shine," said Joy Testa Cinquino with WBEN Tuesday, as she discussed a post-eclipse recycling project.

The Assistant Deputy Director of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library said the library is working with the University at Buffalo's Sustainability Center to provide eclipse glasses recycling stations.

The effort will benefit "Astronomers Without Borders" which is providing eclipse glasses to communities across Africa, Asia, North and South America that do not have access to these glasses for future eclipses.

"We have a recycle bin at the downtown library until April 18. People can just drop them in there," Cinquino said.

All nine library branches in the city of Buffalo will be collection sites. In addition, many suburban libraries will also accept them, including East Aurora, Hamburg, Lakeshore, Newstead, Angola, Clarence, Lancaster and Orchard Park. The full list of locations is available HERE.

Glasses can also be dropped off at UB's Capen Hall on the North campus and Diefendorf on the South campus.

The Buffalo and Erie County Public Libraries gave out approximately 152 thousand eclipse glasses since October.

"It's a really nice way to renew and recycle. We all enjoyed the wonders of the sky. This will give others a chance to experience future sky happenings," she added.
