Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A male pedestrian is hospitalized after bricks fell from the Liberty Building in Downtown Buffalo on Tuesday. Officials are working to determine the condition of the building.

Emergency personnel responded to the Liberty Building at approximately 1:11 p.m. Tuesday after the falling bricks hit the pedestrian in the head. The incident happened near the corner of Court and Pearl Streets.

The bricks are believed to have fallen from the 13th floor.

WBEN received the statement from a City of Buffalo spokesperson:

"Preliminary reports indicate that bricks fell from the building, striking a male pedestrian in the head. The individual was reported to be awake and alert at the scene. Building inspectors and personnel from the Buffalo Fire Department (BFD) are currently on site conducting a full assessment."

The spokesperson later added the individual struck by the bricks were transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Among the responding agencies to the scene included the Buffalo Police Department, Buffalo Fire Department, the NFTA and AMR Ambulance.

Officials had Pearl Street closed off between Court Street and W Eagle Street for several hours following the incident.
