Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) – A dramatic scene unfolded at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park on Saturday as firefighters with the Buffalo Fire Department worked to rescue a deer that was trapped in the water by the USS Croaker.

Dozens of onlookers watched as first responders pulled the deer from the water near the walkway by the submarine.

The incident happened around 2 p.m., while officials tell WBEN the rescue operation took about 30 minutes.

There is no word on how long the animal had been in the water. The deer was released to the Erie County SPCA Wildlife Department.
