Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The chief of the Erie County Sheriff's narcotics unit will retire from his post in March to take a job in the private sector. Granville had served a suspension after hitting several parked cars with his county issued vehicle.
Granville was suspended by the Erie County Sheriff's office for 30 days in connection with the incident in the city of Buffalo in April 2024. The incident was caught on video, stirring controversy among West Side residents whose cars were affected.
Granville pleaded guilty to leaving the scene without reporting and was fined and ordered to perform community service.
Erie County Sheriff John Garcia issued the following statement: "This morning, D.J. Granville informed me that he submitted paperwork to retire at the end of the month. While some will take this opportunity to reflect on recent developments in his life and career, I am grateful for his decades of service to Erie County. As a result of his work, kilos upon kilos of drugs and hundreds upon hundreds of illegal weapons have been taken off the streets. He has saved lives, and for that, he has the respect of his colleagues. True to our mission, the Erie County Sheriff's Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit will continue to target the traffickers responsible for illicit drug sales in our community. We owe the people of Erie County nothing less."
