Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Congressman Brian Higgins reacts to President Trump and his wife Melania testing positive for coronavirus as he returns from Washington Friday afternoon.

"Either you are fully and faithfully committed to the fix, and now the president is part of a statistic you don't want to be a part of," says Higgins. "I think in the grips of this disease, this country has not handled it very well, as evidenced by the fact we have 25 percent of the cases worldwide with about four percent of the population."

Higgins hopes the nation has been humbled by this, and recognizes the nation learns from the mistakes and become better sons and daughters for this nation.

Higgins says this shouldn't surprise everybody. "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told us several months ago if we all wore masks we would be in control of his in six or seven weeks. The president has been very dismissive of the very public health officials who are in place to give guidance to him, his administration and the nation. This is not surprising when you go into large crowds without social distancing or face masks. Never in my lifetime has the health and safety have depended on our fellow citizens doing the right thing on behalf of each other," says Higgins.
