Shane Cronin, 30, arraigned on attempted kidnapping charges

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - An Illinois man was arraigned Wednesday morning for the alleged attempted kidnapping of a student at the Dr. Charles R. Drew Science Magnet School 59 in Buffalo back in February.

In Erie County Court on Wednesday, 30 year old Shane Cronin pleaded not guilty before County Judge James Bargnesi.

According to District Attorney Michael Keane, on Feb. 11th, Cronin allegedly entered the school and approached two children in the hallway. An employee witnessed him trying to leave with one of them and confronted him. Cronin then allegedly punched her in the face and ran out of the building, before police were able to apprehended him.

"I understand this alleged incident has raised questions and heightened concerns about the safety and well-being of children in the Buffalo Public School District," said Erie County District Attorney Michael Keane in a statement. "I assure the public that this office remains committed to the thorough investigation and prosecution of any crime involving a child. Additionally, I am aware of statements made by a member of the Buffalo Police Department in recent podcast interviews. My office has been conducting an investigation. We are committed to upholding the law, pursuing justice for victims, and preserving the integrity of the investigative process. While our investigation continues, I will have no further comment and will provide an update at the appropriate time."
