Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Throughout his mayoral campaign, Sean Ryan said snow removal on Buffalo streets was priority and one of the centerpieces of his "handling the basics" pledge.

The Jan. 15 snowstorm that left as much as six inches of snow during an overnight storm proved to be the first time Ryan and his public works team was put to a test.

Ryan and his team passed.

"I'd give him an 'A'," said State Assemblyman Jon Rivera. "I think the city (crews) responded in a great way."

Rivera said he drove from the West Side to a mid-morning press event in Lackawanna and every city street he drove on was plowed.

The same was true for Lackawanna, Rivera added.

"Everything looked great," Rivera said.

State Senator April Baskin, who attended the same event as Rivera, echoed his feelings about the first test for Ryan's public works team.

Baskin said she traveled through several Buffalo neighborhoods to get to Lackawanna. Every street - both main thoroughfares and side streets - were plowed.

"This is Buffalo, we know how this goes," Baskin said.
