Buffalo Police seek help investigating alleged attempted sexual assault in Delaware Park

"She made a lot of noise, she yelled, she fought, she kicked"

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Buffalo Police Department is seeking the public's help investigating an alleged attempted sexual assault in Delaware Park at Hoyt Lake.

Police say the incident happened this past Tuesday night just after 8 p.m. ET.

Detectives say the female victim reported, while walking on the path alongside Hoyt Lake (near the statue of David) in Delaware Park, a black male who had been riding a black and silver mountain bike, and was near a bench, when he grabbed her at the back of her neck.

Police say the suspect pulled her off the path, pushed her down, and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim screamed for help, and another man approached in response. The suspect then fled on the mountain bike.

"She did exactly what we wanted her to do," said Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia at a briefing Saturday. "She made a lot of noise, she yelled, she fought, she kicked."

The suspect is described as a black male, late 20s to early 30s, medium skin color, curly hair, thin, 5-foot-9, about 160 pounds, no beard, and was wearing a grey shirt with white writing and dark pants.

Gramaglia says patrols, including foot patrols, have been increased in the area.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious should call 911 immediately and anyone with information that might be helpful is asked to call or text the Confidential TIPCALL Line at (716)-847-2255.
