Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - "We're in a state of readiness all the time," said Nate Marton, Buffalo Public Works Commissioner on WBEN on Monday.

Public Works crews are getting a break from plowing and salting,
thanks to a mid winter warm up.

"This break in the weather has been good for our teams to be able to focus on potholes," he said. "We have crews that go out everyday, but certainly on
relatively warm weekends, like this past weekend, it was a great opportunity
for 7 crews that were out."

The city of Buffalo is responsible for about 16 hundred lane miles.

Marton said they hit targeted areas over the weekend based on calls from the city's 311 line. They also sent crews to main thoroughfares and filled potholes as needed.

"I visited a crew on Saturday morning at William and Bailey. They filled targeted potholes and then went down Bailey and filled them in as they went along.
We had a really good response over the weekend," he added.

Some roads in the city are much harder to do on busy weekdays. He said weekends are great for crews to get some of that work done.

"We have a 48 hour guarantee. If you call the 311 line, we'll get it on our schedule."

Winter pothole repairs are temporary. It's a cold patch process until a more permanent hot mix asphalt repair can be made when the weather gets warmer.

"We fill them. we roll them. We make them as good as we can for the moment. Hopefully it holds. But if it doesn't, we'll come back and repair it again when the weather breaks," said Marton.
