Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The City of Buffalo announced Sunday the Skyway will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, until further notice, in advance of anticipated severe weather and high wind gusts.
The closure is being implemented due to forecasted hazardous conditions, including strong winds and snow, which are expected to significantly impact driving conditions and public safety.
City officials are coordinating with emergency management, public safety agencies, and the New York State Department of Transportation to monitor conditions and ensure the safety of motorists.
Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes, allow extra travel time, and use caution when traveling during severe weather conditions. Updates regarding the Skyway closure will be provided.
In addition, an empty tractor trailer and tandem ban will be in effect beginning at 6 a.m. Monday until further notice for a number of roadways in Western New York. This includes the New York State Thruway from Exit 46 in Henrietta to the Pennsylvania border, the I-190 and the I-290.
