Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) Construction at the new Highmark Stadium briefly paused Sunday morning after a minor welding accident caused black smoke to rise from the site of the Buffalo Bills’ future home.
According to a statement from Turner/Gilbane, the stadium’s construction management team, sparks from welding work ignited a small fire outside the stadium structure. The fire was quickly extinguished, and no injuries or significant damage were reported.
Work resumed shortly afterward on the $2.1 billion facility, which will replace the current Highmark Stadium as the Bills’ new home. The project remains on schedule.
